Top Pharmacy Job: Managed Care Clinical Pharmacist in Sacramento, CA

The managed care clinical pharmacist is responsible for reviewing prior authorization requests and making determinations for drug products according to member benefits and coverage criteria, setting criteria for medication analysis, coordinating reports to clients, and meeting regulatory reporting requirements for drug utilization review, and fraud and abuse reporting.

Other duties include developing clinical criteria for review of non-formulary or non-preferred drug list medications and communicating recommendations to clients, as well as overseeing the drug utilization review and medication therapy management programs at the assigned plan to meet Medicare Part D requirements, and developing systematic reviews of prescription claims to meet strategic initiatives.

The pharmacist hired for this position will also be responsible for developing clinical edits effective at the point of sale to enhance drug utilization that relies on evidence-based criteria. In addition, the pharmacist will provide clinical guidance and support to assigned pharmacy technicians, develop and review guidelines for prior authorization and non-formulary drugs, ensure and evaluate quality controls, and improve the performance of pharmacy practices.

This position also requires research on drug information to maintain drug and disease knowledge for application to prior authorization reviews.

The requirements for the job include:

• A valid, open and active California pharmacy license
• R. Ph. or PharmD
• At least one year of recent pharmacy experience in a managed care setting
