We have openings for pharmacists in retail chain, independent, independent compounding, community outpatient and long-term care settings, as well as inpatient settings.

Retail and Other Settings

For those working in retail and outpatient areas, job responsibilities include mixing pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions, verifying prescriptions, counseling and assisting customers. Other duties include maintaining patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients, maintaining proper storage and security conditions for drugs, answering telephones, and responding to questions or requests by patients and pharmacy technicians.

The pharmacist will also be responsible for prepackaging bulk medicines, filling bottles with prescribed medications and typing labels.

Inpatient Pharmacy

For inpatient settings, the pharmacist will set criteria for medication analysis, coordinate reports to clients, meet regulatory reporting requirements for drug utilization review and fraud and abuse reporting.   

They will also be responsible for reviewing medication orders for appropriateness and accuracy, including contraindications, allergies, dose, frequency, duplicate therapy and formulary status. Other duties include interpreting, clarifying and rectifying physician medication and IV orders, including the medication reconciliation process.

The pharmacist will also interpret, clarify and rectify prescriptions and select medications for outpatient dispensing. Other responsibilities of the job include monitoring all patients on specified target drugs, as well as initiating pharmacokinetic dosing protocols. Also, the person hired for the job will evaluate drug therapy for appropriateness, make drug therapy recommendations to clinicians, prescribe drug therapy as specified in drug therapy management agreements and medical executive committee approved protocols.

The pharmacist will dispense the final product for administration and perform patient counseling, monitor and report adverse drug events and medication errors, supervise and train pharmacy technicians, supervise and train pharmacy interns and externs, participate in the development of drug protocols and clinical pathways, and perform drug usage evaluations on selected drugs.

They will also complete quality assurance auditing as required for prescriptive authority.

Qualifications

To qualify for these positions, you must have:

  • A valid, open and active California pharmacist license
  • BS or PharmD
  • At least one year of recent pharmacy experience at a retail or outpatient setting
