The pharmacy manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the operational activities of the department of pharmacy services at the healthcare facility, ensuring that the functions of the department align with the policies and procedures of the organization.

The pharmacy manager also develops, implements, and monitors clinical pharmacy services that support patient care. He or she will work with a healthcare team to provide quality care to patients and act as a liaison between pharmacy services and other medical staff. The manager is also accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all pharmaceutical care delivered to patients.

He or she also takes part in managing medication-related issues for the electronic information system. Other duties include developing standards for employee work performance, as well as working to enhance collaboration between pharmacy services and other specialties and departments. The pharmacy manager also works to improve pharmacy education for patients and staff while doing consulting and helping with research.

The manager also supervises the purchasing, receiving, storage, and delivery of medications. The person filling the position will also make sure that the pharmacy department is adequately staffed. The pharmacy manager is also responsible for supporting the implementation of clinical plans and maintaining information systems in the pharmacy.

Requirements for the job include an R. Ph. or PharmD degree and at least five years of pharmacy experience in a hospital setting or management-level setting. Applicants must have a valid, open and active Arizona pharmacy license.
