The clinical pharmacist reviews specialty medication prior authorization requests according to established treatment protocols, clinical criteria, and member benefits. Other job duties include making coverage determinations within defined turnaround times, meeting regulatory requirements, analyzing and monitoring industry trends, and developing criteria recommendations for the pharmacy and therapeutics committee and clients.

The pharmacist hired for this position will also define and coordinate prior authorization and drug utilization review reports for clients and ensure regulatory reporting requirements are met for drug utilization review, fraud, and abuse. They will also oversee the drug utilization review and medication therapy management programs for specialty prescription claims in order to meet strategic initiatives. The pharmacist will also develop and design specialty medication clinical edits for claims adjudication and enhanced drug utilization review.

Other requirements for the job include providing clinical guidance, support and oversight to pharmacy technicians, and developing and reviewing guideline criteria for prior authorization and non-formulary drugs in support of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee function and pharmacy benefit design.

The clinical pharmacist is also charged with ensuring and evaluating quality controls and implementing opportunities for performance improvement in pharmacy practice and researching drug information to maintain drug knowledge and disease state understanding for application to prior authorization reviews.

In order to qualify for this job, you must have a valid, open and active Arizona pharmacist license, be a registered pharmacist and have at least one year of pharmacy experience in a retail or long-term care setting, or as a pharmacy benefit manager.
