Top Job: Inpatient Pharmacy Manager in San Francisco

Rx relief® has an exciting management opportunity available right now in San Francisco, California. This is a full-time direct-hire job in a clinical hospital as an inpatient pharmacy manager.

The inpatient pharmacy manager has the primary responsibility of maintaining relationships with medical staff to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes, while at the same time maintaining productivity and quality standards. The pharmacy manager also receives written prescription or refill requests and verifies the information is complete and accurate.

The duties also include data entry and verification using Cerner/Pyxis, providing specialized pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes, as well as advising physicians on issues concerning drug therapy, toxicity of drugs and side effects, and assisting in the prescription of appropriate doses.

The pharmacy manager also ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations related to the dispensing of drugs and controlled drugs, and the maintenance of required records. The person hired for the job will also mentor pharmacy interns in training, including pharmacy practice residents and pharmacy students. Other duties include conducting and evaluating medication histories, assessing compliance and suggesting changes to achieve desired outcomes.

The pharmacist also instructs patients in the proper use of prescribed drugs and participates in patient care rounds with multidisciplinary teams. They are responsible for individualizing medication regimens, accounting for pharmacodynamic variations in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination.

They are also accountable for establishing and continually improving pharmaceutical care to patients.

The requirements for the position include:

• A valid, open and active California pharmacy license
• PharmD or BS
• At least one year of recent pharmacy experience in a hospital or ambulatory care center as a pharmacy manager
