Is This the Year You Get That Big Raise? Tips for a Prosperous 2016

The word prosper means being successful, more specifically, financially successful. It also connotes strength and health. With the new year rapidly approaching, you may be looking at things you can do to prosper in 2016. There are obviously many things to look at if you want to improve your life, and you may be wondering where to start. If that is the case, here are a few things to look at to get your life going in the right direction, things you can do to prosper both personally and professionally.

Exercise.

This is at the top of the list for a reason. After all of the research that has been done on the health benefits of exercise, there is no excuse anymore not to do it. Exercise improves your well-being not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

To begin with, exercise can help prevent many different ailments, such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. It has also been shown to actually stimulate the creation of new brain cells and to improve our mood. If you want to prosper, begin by exercising.

Watch your diet.

Being overweight can lead to various health problems and added stress in your life. On the other hand, those that eat healthy are found to have lower stress levels and less health concerns. Getting the proper nutrition also affects your energy levels and mental alertness. Keeping a healthy diet will help your body and mind work at optimal levels.

Get your personal finances in order.

This is obviously a big topic. But the place to begin is reducing any debt you may have. High levels of debt have been shown to increase stress and cause health problems. To start reducing your debt, begin by making a household budget. Set reasonable spending limits and stick to them. There are many online tools to help you prepare a budget. If your situation is dire, seek professional financial help.

Stop bad habits.

This is obviously easier said than done. But there are techniques to tackle bad habits, techniques to help you put your willpower to work. Again, you can look online for help.

Make time for friends and family.

This has all kinds of benefits. Studies have shown that people who are active socially with friends and family are generally healthier, more mentally alert, and happier than those who are socially isolated.

Get enough sleep.

The importance of sleep for health and well-being cannot be overstated. Sleep helps our bodies heal and regenerate. Lack of sleep can lead to many different health problems, everything from obesity to cancer.

Assess where you are in your career and, if unhappy, take steps to improve your professional situation.

If you’re unhappy in your career, figure out why. Do you want a raise? If so, talk to your supervisor about what you need to do to earn one. Are you unhappy with your prospects? Perhaps you need more education. For example, if you’re a pharmacy technician and want to become a pharmacist, start exploring Pharm.D. programs near you to find out their requirements.
