Our history: Pharmacy staffing since 1978

Rx relief^® was founded in 1978 in the second bedroom of a pharmacist’s home in Fallbrook, California, as a small staffing company specializing in placing pharmacists in retail practice settings. As the demand for pharmacists to cover vacations, illnesses, and staffing shortages grew, founder Dr. Roy Long expanded the company into the Los Angeles area and eventually throughout California.

Recognizing the growing need for pharmacists in other practice settings, Dr. Long expanded the company’s recruiting services to include hospitals, long-term care, and home infusion. In the late 1980s, Rx relief expanded into Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Over time, the company also served clients in Alaska, Idaho, and Colorado and even placed a pharmacist in the U.S. territory of Guam.

Transitioning leadership in 1997

After more than 20 years of building Rx relief, Dr. Long decided to retire. The company was offered to Carl Franklin, who joined Rx relief in 1990 and became regional manager for the Fresno area in 1992.

Mr. Franklin was introduced to George Rogers, then president and CEO of PrideStaff®, a national staffing firm interested in expanding through acquisitions. Mr. Rogers agreed to purchase Rx relief, with Mr. Franklin continuing as vice president and general manager. On November 1, 1997, Rx relief became PrideStaff’s eighteenth office.
