Pharmacy Buyer - Certified Pharmacy Technician

Job Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Buyer Manager – Certified Pharmacy Technician in a growing segment of healthcare, Mail Order Pharmacy, you will work with well renowned Mail Order Pharmacy. They have a high reputation at the market level.


Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Inventory Management: (Ensures adequate medication supplies, purchasing contract compliance, accurate billing, and compliance with laws and regulations),
  • Complete appropriate documentation, such as labels, log sheets and reports. MRO – Maintenance, Repair, and Operations
  • This is a new position for this Mail Order Pharmacy - Develop the Pharmacy Buyer department and setting processes to follow for the pharmacy as a whole
  • Work with the Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacist in Charge to develop the write processes for this position.
  • Develop strategic relationships with the wholesale and retailers to reduce drug and supply costs
  • This position is also responsible for procuring or facilitating the procurement of medications for patients as prescribed by a licensed professional to ensure proper patient treatment/care at all times along with preventing avoidable drug stock-outs. 
  • Coordinate high volume ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing of pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations and under proper storage conditions including potential off-site locations.
  • Purchasing roughly $280 million worth of prescription drugs per year – staying within this or below is most ideal
  • Monitor/review group purchasing (GPO) contracts for:  Manufacturer price changes and their effect on purchases along with availability of new to market drugs – brand or generic.
  • Systematically sets inventory par levels necessary to meet patient needs in the context of historical usage, clinical reviews of patient mix and disease states, and financial parameters. Monitors stock levels of medications and supplies.
  • Purchasing from more local supply chains
  • Assist with lowering cost of medications
  • Processes and arranges for final disposition of unusable medication and supply inventory from outdates, recalls, discontinuations through manufacturers, wholesalers and related parties.
  • Dependable, strong work ethics, works well in team setting, pays attention to detail and has strong math skills.
  • Expected to continually provide courteous and professional support throughout all their interactions.
  • Basic computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet utilization. 
  • Excellent customer service skills (written and verbal) a must
  • Experience with automatic dispensing machines; barcode scanner; repackaging machines
  • Prior experience utilizing wholesaler purchasing systems

Specific Pharmacy Buyer - Certified Pharmacy Technician requirements:

  • Area: Ability to work in the Tampa, FL area
  • Licensure requirements: Must have valid, open and active Florida Pharmacy Technician license.  PTCB required.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Years of experience: 2+ year(s) of recent experience in Inpatient Hospital setting AND at least 1+ years as a Pharmacy Buyer or Purchasing in Hospital setting.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, No weekends – Early Morning Shifts, Full Time
  • Length of Assignment: Temp to Hire
  • Pay: Depending on Experience (Highly Competitive with Pharmacy Buyer salaries in Tamp, FL)
  • Background/drug requirements: Ability to successfully complete background check and drug screen
